Not All Things Are Planned

When I sat down to make this bead, it was going to be a Goddess standing in front of a tree. She was going to be obscuring the tree, which would be in the background behind her. Sometimes things don’t go as planned. . .

Grove Goddess

Grove Goddess

As you can see, this was one of those times. As I painted on the branches for the tree I realised there was a beautiful space and a little hill that was crying out for someone to stand upon. I decided to try and put a much smaller Goddess in the distance on the hill. I like the result! The question is – can I recreate it?? I had used a little left over stringer for the tree and I don’t know what the colours were. I’d like the branches just a little darker but not too dark – what colour to use?

I had also layered copper leaf over silver on the bead and some of the copper embers landed on the ivory glass – don’t want that! I have a vision in my mind of how this bead should look – it’s a glorious vision – I hope I can figure out how to turn it into reality!

FIRE UP THE TORCH!!

  • Oh WOW! That is so cool! Almost like she is the calm in the midst of a storm. I first thought the branches almost looked like flames – as though she was calling up a storm. So incredibly cool! Maybe a green-brown for the next one? Or a red-brown? copper? I like the layout of this – very artsy and so pretty. I’m sure you’ll be able to do it again :)
You could even try a similar one with grey rock and blue ocean spraying around her instead of the brown – OOH! How about an ‘elemental’ theme?? ocean, fire, water, earth?
Woman, you are too cool and inspirational :)

  • I know I said this on one of the forums but she is very spiritual. Louise I love were you are going with your goddess beads. BTW do you remember I have on of your first goddess beads, girlfriend you have come a long way.

Thank you Paula — it’s funny I was looking at some of my older ones recently and realised how much more control I have now than I did then. It’s one of the most rewarding things about bead making, you can really watch your skills progress.

Meghann you are a sweetheart and you always come up with such good ideas! I like the idea of the elements and also the sea Goddess. I’m trying to work up a new shape for this design too, and also have some ideas to incorporate transparent glass that maybe looks like set jewels.
